Eyes in Shadows

It’s been a while since my last post, but I’m long done with school and trying to kick the lazy away… so here it goes.

Diane von Furstenberg:  The DVF girl this prefall has a younger feel and a good amount of edge.  I find that she constantly reinvents herself, but always maintains her signature thread throughout.  Here we see lots of rock n’ roll touches and mad print (my personal favourite).  And yes, she seems to be showing more skin than usual (my personal favourite ;).

To be honest, I think the fishnets and grommeted belts were lost in this collection.  The strong points were the bold prints and proportions.  I was enamored with the bold print suits.  I would just die if I were to wear them tomorrow.

There was also a lot of the stretch patent leather.  I liked the elbow length gloves, I can see how they can add to the madness of it all.  A lethal touch to our sense of crazy.  Mental Pret-a-Porter.  I LOVE IT!

Another strong point for me were the dresses.  The waists were dropped, which always shows more non-chalance.  I liked one variation, in particular, with the wrap bodice and the pleated/split skirt.  very sensuous yet crazy.  

I’m a fan of what this house can turn out, and I’d say I hope they stay on this Marni meets Chanel meets Dries van Noten younger girl.  She’s really cool.  See the whole collection Here at Style.com.

Proenza Schouler:  I love Jack and Lazaro’s collections so much because every time, they advance further into their vocabulary of cool and never loose their original girl they’ve designed for since day one.

This pre-season you can see some Proenza Schouler vintage threads woven into this hyper modern collection.  The color palette, for one, was classic P.S. and so was the bustier mixed with the skirt.  The newness was this great mashup of outdoor parkas rendered in tweeds.  So you get this luxe coat that is cut in the image of an urban garment.  And more so, it’s not just a parka paired with a cool dress or skirt.  They morphed it into something cooler.

Within the 17 looks, these were some of my favourites.  I really fell in love with the quilted pieces.  I thought they looked very fresh and contemporary and just oozing with new-wave-cool.  I’m believing now more than ever, that the P.S. girl is the most urban chic in all NYC.  I can’t wait to see what they have been working on for next season.  If this is any indicator, we can expect more awesome coats.

One big takeaway would have to be, shroud your clavicles with huge outerwear.  Nothing keeps your bones warmer than outdoor outerwear, and if you can get it in Italian tweed… than smoke a cigarette in non-chalant rejoice, cause you are officially cool.  Watch the rest of the collection HERE at Styel.com.

Hey tumblr babes. Have you guys made your holiday wish list’s already?
Part of me (being a february birthday baby) is more excited for the new year to come, mainly for spring 2012 collections! Being the typical girl that I am, the one I can’t wait for the most is obviously the Wildfox & Jeffery Campbell collaboration dropping in February 2012. It’s all I have been thinking about! What collections are you most excited for?

Zero + Maria Cornejo:  I’ve slowly been following this woman, and today she opened my eyes to her world of nonchalant-modern-art-cool.  Lets put on our most eccentric pair of glasses and begin dissecting this collection.

Let me begin by saying that most of these clothes make dressing very easy and inspiring.  You just toss it on over your ribcage and head out the door and into every gallery and museum you can trot to.  Honestly, you wouldn’t want to waste these clothes anywhere else except amongst the intellectuals.  These clothes are just that smart.

I must say, that so far I’ve been loving this multiple sighting of short pants.  Its just so refreshing to see legs bared in a new way, under architectural pleats.  I also adore the redefinition of “off-the-shoulder.”  Instead of exposing our bones, Maria proposes we drape it with a bit of grace and effortlessness.  Almost as effortless as that jumpsuit.  I know they’ve popped out everywhere, but when you make one as striking as hers, all I can say is “dust off you most adorned bustier, dishevel your hair, and have a few glasses of wine to get that perfect berry-stained pout.”

Maria Conejo, you prove that you’re clothes should never be overlooked when searching for a smart, urbanite clothes with that disheveled panache I love so much.

Theyskens’ Theory:  (Inhale) What more can be said about Olivier’s urban poetic sensibility that hasn’t been said already.  He romanced princesses and socialites alike with his work at Rochas and Nina Ricci.  And now we can clearly see he is making urban girls swoon with desire to be that girl he speaks to, through Theory.

For this prefall collection he’s added more of those couture house touches with the embellishment and long skirts, as they resulted in my favorite looks.  Also, who can resist those drapey tshirts or long airy skirts?  Not I.  The jackets too, are stellar, no surprise there.  

What was most refreshing was the new proportion of the shorts.  We really haven’t seen proper short pants, yet here they are… done in a cooler way.  And I can’t leave without mentioning the star of the season.  METALIC SILVER PANTS!  I think only a select few of us need these.  Obviously not everyone cause then they wouldn’t be cool anymore.  The shoes peaked my interest.  Like a mashup of a wresting boot and a Dr. Martin.  I’m sure I’ll love it when I see it a few more times.

THAKOON!  This is one guy who’s good at making cool dresses for cool girls.  His use of lines and proportion is more polished, and doesn’t lose its edge.  But he could lose that Lime Crime blue lipstick, just sayin’. 

The two best looks are the knit saddle sleeve shirt dress and the striped knee-lenght dress pleated at the waist.  These two really display that unhinged kind of girl who knows too much vibe.  I love the darker side of them.

This wave of young designers, who created a niche market for young nonchalant girls with money, are the future of NYC fashion.  Before them (i.e. Proenza, Jason Wu, Altuzarra, Alex Wang, Rodarte) no one really had this crowd going.  I do love these times.
